Taxes
I have been thinking a lot about taxes since it is tax time. I do not mind paying taxes at all. I know that I need to pay for things in order to get things in return such as roads, public schools and police officers. At the same time I worry about where my tax money is going and how much we are spending.
Who is paying what
Top 1% pay 38.8%
Top 5% pay 60.7%
Top 10% pay 72.7%
Top 20% pay 86.3%
Bottom 20% pay -2.9% (yes that is a negative 2.9% not a mistake)
In 2008 the total federal income taxes came to over $2.5 TRILLION Dollars. So where does all of this money go? The main three things that we are paying for are social security, health care and defense spending. (Health care includes Medicare, which provides health coverage for people over 65, as well as Medicaid, which covers low-income families, individual and state health coverage for children.) Our tax money also goes to the military and paying off the U.S. debt. The Presidents on the History Channel
Over the past few days I have been watching a series on American Presidents that I had recorded off the history channel. It has made me think about which president is truly my favorite. I know that several people say Ronald Reagan… he is definitely up there. Then there is George H. W. Bush who I feel accomplished what he set to accomplish especially in Kuwait. There is the issue of him raising taxes after his famous line about “Read My Lips” but then ended up raising taxes. Now I do see the argument here but I think that this makes me like him more for the fact that he did what needed to be done no matter if it cost him his reelection. He was not willing to risk the economy just for a reelection. Then there is the controversial George W. Bush whom I am a HUGE fan of. I think that he was an extremely noble president. Also I love how passionate he was when he spoke. I have listed just a few of the many achievements that he has had below.
1. Banned Partial Birth Abortion on November 5, 2003
2. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act
3. Requires states to perform criminal background checks on potential foster and adoptive parents
4. Signed two income tax cuts
5. Established a $2.4 billion fund to help states implement teacher accountability systems
6. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act
7. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty
8. Successfully executed two wars in the aftermath of 9/11/01: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom
9. Saddam Hussein was put into prison and his two murderous sons are dead. Saddam Hussein is now dead. He was hung in Iraq on December 30, 2006.
10. Signed two bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit.

So at this point I would have to say that George W. Bush would by my favorite President. Not only was his time in office successful but I feel that he held the office with an amazing set of personal values.
I have recently purchased the book, The Age of Reagan By Steven F. Hayward so I will keep you updated on my views.

Whenever I think about Ronald Reagan the following comes to my mind…
When the news broke that Democratic presidential candidate Gary Hart was having an affair with Donna Rice, Reagan was returning to the White House from an evening event. About to return to his residence on the second floor, an aide blocked the closing elevator doors to tell Reagan about Hart.
"Boys will be boys," Reagan said, according to former agent Ted Hresko.
When the door of the elevator shut, Reagan said to Hresko, "But boys will not be president."

Global Warming...THE GREAT CLIMATE CHANGE RETREAT
The whole issue of global warming just blows my mind. How can people believe everything that they are told? I am sure that most of you have heard by now the major scientist behind the "Ice Caps" theory came out over the weekend admitting that he could be wrong. He also discussed the fact that the earth was actually warmer during the medieval times. For those of you have not read about this I have placed a link below to the article.

A Young Patriot
I am a republican with basic conservative values. I believe that it is our civil duty to make sure that the government is working for the people. I wish that more people would read the constitution and the declaration of independence. I also believe in looking at both sides and basing my decisions on facts and what people have done not on what people say that they are going to do. I am proud to be an American and I believe it is worth fighting for.
