Over the past few days I have been watching a series on American Presidents that I had recorded off the history channel. It has made me think about which president is truly my favorite. I know that several people say Ronald Reagan… he is definitely up there. Then there is George H. W. Bush who I feel accomplished what he set to accomplish especially in Kuwait. There is the issue of him raising taxes after his famous line about “Read My Lips” but then ended up raising taxes. Now I do see the argument here but I think that this makes me like him more for the fact that he did what needed to be done no matter if it cost him his reelection. He was not willing to risk the economy just for a reelection. Then there is the controversial George W. Bush whom I am a HUGE fan of. I think that he was an extremely noble president. Also I love how passionate he was when he spoke. I have listed just a few of the many achievements that he has had below.
1. Banned Partial Birth Abortion on November 5, 2003
2. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act
3. Requires states to perform criminal background checks on potential foster and adoptive parents
4. Signed two income tax cuts
5. Established a $2.4 billion fund to help states implement teacher accountability systems
6. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act
7. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty
8. Successfully executed two wars in the aftermath of 9/11/01: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom
9. Saddam Hussein was put into prison and his two murderous sons are dead. Saddam Hussein is now dead. He was hung in Iraq on December 30, 2006.
10. Signed two bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit.

So at this point I would have to say that George W. Bush would by my favorite President. Not only was his time in office successful but I feel that he held the office with an amazing set of personal values.
I have recently purchased the book, The Age of Reagan By Steven F. Hayward so I will keep you updated on my views.

Whenever I think about Ronald Reagan the following comes to my mind…
When the news broke that Democratic presidential candidate Gary Hart was having an affair with Donna Rice, Reagan was returning to the White House from an evening event. About to return to his residence on the second floor, an aide blocked the closing elevator doors to tell Reagan about Hart.
"Boys will be boys," Reagan said, according to former agent Ted Hresko.
When the door of the elevator shut, Reagan said to Hresko, "But boys will not be president."

ReplyDeleteNo offense but you are not very intelligent are ignorant. Your process of thinking is preventing us from heading into the 21 Century. Your points 5 and 6 were Bush’s biggest failures.
It is a shame that "Anonymous" was not young enough to enjoy the benefits of "No Child Left Behind", which is clear if someone were to read his/her posting...."no offense but you are not very intelligent are ignorant"???
ReplyDeleteThe attempts but the Bush administration were the early steps at forcing schools to actually educate students up to a national standard. But we are going to continually dumb down American children, hoping that before they graduate from high school that they can read at the 9th grade level?!?!?! The teachers union is afraid of standards that force them to do their jobs, and of course parents would hate to have to take a leading role in the children's education.
